LUMINOUS "GLOW-IN-THE-DARK" PIGMENTS
Most of the wristwatches built at Wilk Watchworks have hand-applied Swiss Super-LumiNova pigment in the hands, and/or on the dial in the hour and minute markers, where appropriate. This has the effect that these areas glow in the dark if the pigment has been “charged” either by sunlight or artificial light.
Pigments glow through a process of absorbing light energy, and then emitting that light, not unlike the way a solar panel absorbs the sun’s energy (which is then stored in a battery for use as electrical energy.) This absorption and subsequent light emission process is repeated over and over according to the light it receives.
The Swiss watch industry chooses Swiss Super-LumiNova pigments for the quality of after-glow performance. The pigments are temperature resistant, do not diminish with age, and they are non-radioactive!
